"You put on a great race. Lake Geode Challenge proves that bigger isn't always better. I plan to do the race next year and spread the word about it here in central Iowa." – Chris VanderLinden, Ankeny, Iowa, First Place, 2010 Lake Geode Challenge
This USA Triathlon-sanctioned event starts with a 1.5 kilometer, clockwise, out-and-back swim. Buoys mark the entire course, and boats and safety personnel are on the lake during the swim.
The 40 kilometer bike course takes participants on a scenic loop outside Geode State Park. The course features flat roads and rolling hills through a quiet, rural countryside. Water will be provided midway through the course.
The race concludes with a 10 kilometer out-and-back run on good asphalt roads in beautiful Geode State Park. The course includes rolling to challenging hills. Water and sports drink will be available at the exit from transition, approximately every mile on the course and at the finish line.
Cash awards will be given to the overall top five male and top five female finishers. Awards are $300 for 1st, $200 for 2nd, $125 for 3rd, $75 for 4th and $50 for 5th.
Volunteers are needed for many facets of the race. If you would like to help, or are racing and have family or friends coming with you who may be interested in volunteering, please contact the volunteer coordinator.
